Jonathan Brooks Sr.

Senior Pastor

Pastor Jonathan was born in Charleston, WV, and accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of six. At just 13 years old, he clearly sensed God’s call into ministry. He attended Nitro High School, where he met his wife, McKenzie. After graduation, he went on to study at Appalachian Bible College, where he excelled on the basketball court and earned a double major in Bible/Theology and Pastoral Studies. He is currently completing his Master of Divinity at Liberty University and is on track to graduate in December 2025.
Pastor Jonathan first joined MVBC in September 2022 as a youth ministry intern while finishing his undergraduate degree. After three years of faithfully serving as youth pastor, he now steps into the role of Senior Pastor, answering God’s call to shepherd the church in a new way.
Jonathan and McKenzie are blessed with a son, Jonathan David “JJ” Brooks Jr. They share a deep love for MVBC and are excited to see what all the Lord has in store for this church family.

Adam Cavender is an experienced worship leader and song writer of 17 years who loves to share the good news. He and his wife Stephanie have partnered together to form a worship family at Mount Vernon Baptist Church.

“I am blessed to have the opportunity to be a part of this movement, God has his own timing and I truly believe he has set things in motion so I could be right here, right now, in this place, working in this work” says Adam. “To be in the presence of God and to usher others into that experience is the call of my life, and I am thankful for it.”
